I have a story about Brancusi.

My artwork created on the occasion of Brancusi Day is called “Heartbeats.” It was easy to make, but a bit more challenging to imagine, because I had to choose something that would represent the feelings that overwhelmed me from the many pages and images I found about Brancusi. I haven’t seen anything (yet) of what he has created in reality, but I found information in books and on the internet.

Why “Heartbeats”? Because, while reading about Brancusi and observing his works, I thought that heartbeats symbolize the fact that his works come to life in front of the audience and influence the viewers, overwhelming them with emotion. In addition, I chose two quotes from his interviews that can influence me as a future artist.

“I only speak to you about that sculpture which possesses its own life; not about one that would have any semblance of life. Moreover, always: simple and pure theories are worthless samples; only action matters.”

“What people lack in our time is the cosmic dimension, the feeling of this spiritual adventure beyond apparent reality.” Constantin Brancusi – October 1938, Conversations with Ionel Jianu. Text published in the Royal Foundations Magazine, No. 9, September 1946.
